New Work
I've been working with the Tempestry project at OneTree Alaska for a couple of years now. One morning, my thoughts about a warming planet collided with my love of baking when I heard an article by a New York Times food critic about what might happen to our sensory memories of comfort food when natural vanilla is no longer available.
Before I knew it, I was sketching vanilla orchids, learning about island ecology and thinking about the wonderful array of plants and creatures on a faraway island I will probably never visit.
Madagascar Farewell was the result.
It also turns out that weaving lemurs and radiated tortoises is a complete lark! The joy of it helped alleviate my climate grief just a bit.
